For anyone who knows me you’ll be very surprised to hear that I did not go to Vida this Indy Devour WinterFest. However, I did go to another CRG restaurant. This Winter Devour my brother and I went to Nesso.
Is a reservation needed ?
Maybe. To be honest, I was very confused with their reservation system. My brother made the reservation same day through Resy. According to the Resy, Nesso was completely booked for dinner on a Friday evening except for 5:00 and 9:00. In most cases, I would have risked it and just shown up without a reservation. However, this was a CRG restaurant on a Friday night. In my past experiences at Vida I’ve attempted to show up without a reservation and it did not work. Couldn’t get a table until 9.
My brother booked us for 5:00. Ugh such an early hour for dinner but what were we to do? Not gonna lie, it was EMPTY. I don’t they got busy until 6:30. Was a reservation really needed? Maybe if we wanted to come in 6:30-8 but between the hours of 5-6:30, I’m pretty sure they could have gotten us in. To be fair, making a reservation never hurts.

Bread
It was pretty great. Some of the best Foccacia I’ve had and the balsamic drizzle and EVOO was very flavorful. I would pay for this bread (and we did pay for the bread).
Since this was our first time at Nesso, my brother and I wanted to try some of their other apps not featured on the devour menu. On top of the Brussel sprouts and Octopus we added an order of calamari and their meatballs.
Calamari
The calamari was good, but nothing special. There are restaurants that do it better in Indy. The batter was a bit oily. The calamari came with fried artichoke hearts and some other fried thing, served with aioli and pomodoro sauce. “Food is a vessel for Sauce” and that is exactly what I used the calamari for because the sauces were very yummy.
If I could order a dish of just the artichoke with the sauce, I would. Those bitches made the dish!
Meatballs
The meatballs were a bit mushy but had great flavor. The balls had a strong Romano flavor which I really enjoyed. The sauce was a beautiful bright red and tasted fragrant and fresh, definitely not from the can.
Brussel sprouts were good, bit softer than I would have preferred but that is just a personal preference, still very delicious
Octopus – Shi fire bru
Dish was pretty and octopus was cooked perfectly, very tender. I only had a bite, I don’t prefer to eat octopus. I’m also very surprised my brother enjoyed this dish considering it consisted of chervil oil which has a similar taste as parsley. My brother is one of those people who cannot stand parsley and cilantro.
Main.
Chicken Saltimbocca and Veal Cheeks
It was good. The lemon chard paired very well with the chicken and the chicken tasted nicely seasoned and juicy. I don’t have a ton to say besides that it was good but nothing exciting nor foodgasm worthy.
The Veal Cheeks were gross. Personally, after one bite, I was good and did not want anymore. It was kinda stinky.
Max (my brother) enjoyed it.
Dessert
“Very good” – according to my 18 year old brother.
Very tasty! I preferred the tiramisu over the other thing, which tasted like a salted caramel creme brûlée and I do not care for salted caramel.
Overall Review
Nesso
Address: 339 S Delaware St, Indianapolis, IN 46204
Atmosphere was great.
Service could have been better. Nothing I can complain about but the timing of the entree’s were not well timed. I’m sure the rush did not help so I won’t gripe too much about it.
Food, overall pretty tasty but nothing extremely exciting (except for the tiramasu). Presentation was spectacular. My two favorite things that were excited me was the bread and the tiramisu dessert. Everything else was good but again, nothing exciting.
